1x.6 Britain's Got Talent

Britain's Got Talent is one of the most successful talent shows ever broadcast. Anyone of any age with any sort of talent can audition for the show. Acts compete against each other in order to gain audience support. The winner receives a cash prize of £500.000 (approximately €750.000) and is given the opportunity to perform in the Royal Variety Performance in front of members of the British Royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II. The final usually gets more than 50% of audience share, which makes this competition more popular than other well-known talent shows such as The X Factor or The Voice.

Watch below a selection of some of the most popular acts that have taken part in Britain's Got Talent.

  1. Imagine you have to describe the acts to someone who hasn't watched them. Write 60-80 words for each act, using in each description at least 5 of the useful phrases studied in class (page 49 in your Student's Book). Try to think about which phrases suit each act best. We will discuss your texts in class. 
  2. When you finish, leave a comment on the blog explaining what act you have enjoyed the most and why. Enjoy the show!

    The act I enjoyed the most is "attraction", because it's short but it has a deep argument and the music is also great for all the different and emotional scenes.

    In my opinion the best video is the second, because it seems more complicated rehearsing choreography with a dog, than dancing or singing and I think it takes more work and dedication.

    Hi! The best show for me is the song of Jonathan and Charlotte, because it shows you that appareances are deceiving. Both of them have an outstanding talent.

    My favourite video is the first of all because it's an awesome achievement. I have to recognite that I got impressed from the very first time I watched this act because we can highliht the beauty of the dance.

    The one I liked the most is the first video. I got impressed when I saw it for the first time and I think that making the choreography and the story took a lot of work and dedication.

    The video that I liked the most was the second because the girl and the dog have devoted many hours to the choreography and is very difficult for the dog listen to you all time.

    My favourite act was the first one, the "choreography" need a lot of practise, but what really surprised me more was the story behind the act, was beautiful and a little sad, is something that can easily represent a real story.

    Hello, I'm Victor, from 1xA. My favourite video has been the third. It is my favourite because at the begining I thought that they were normal people without talent. When I saw what were they able to do.... With this video I realised that we can't trust on appearances.

    I liked all videos, but my favourite video was the last, because the audencie people before the performance, didn't belive in them talents. When the music start and Jonathan sing, just the people shoted and applauded the interpreteiton. I really like this act because the men brak their complex and he demonstrate him talent, i was emotion when i see this video.

    Hello, I'm Ivan, from 1 Bahc. A. I liked the first interpretation, is a very worked performance, I was surprised because it's amazing how at 3:30 min. and only with shadows is possible to tell the story of a life even to move.
